What is a Functional Medicine Practitioner?
As a functional medicine practitioner, I spend time listening to my clients medical history, looking at genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that can influence long term health and cause complex, chronic disease.
Working with my clients, the initial consultation is the crucial stage of building up a picture of your health journey, goals and challenges.
Initially I assess your health history, current and past symptoms, nutritional habits, lifestyle and emotional stressors. Once all of that information is gathered, I am able to develop an individual and bespoke protocol (Plan), which is based on scientific evidence, implementing diet and lifestyle changes to help you reach your health goals. We work together to achieve optimal health with an individual approach with on-going support and follow up consultations. In addition I may recommend other complimentary medicines like homeopathy, herbal medicine and acupuncture.
Naturopathic Nutritional advice will be tailored to support medically diagnosed conditions and / or health concerns. I am not permitted to diagnose.
My passion for Naturopathic Nutrition and Functional Medicine came about through my own health issues. 11 years ago I was diagnosed with abnormal cells of the cervix, endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and pre-diabetes. I was suffering with IBS, low energy, acne, thinning hair and nutritional deficiencies at such a young age. The hospital quickly realised I was managing the cervical cell changes by diet. I went under a nutritional therapist and homeopath to gain much more knowledge of what was happening in my body to cause me to be in a state of disease.
My energy started to increase and the acne started to disappear. I wanted to learn much more in-depth of why at such a young age I was in a state of disease with numerous health issues and symptoms. I wanted to understand the root cause. I also wanted to understand the biochemistry of the body, which led me to get my qualification in naturopathic nutrition and functional medicine. Change of diet, nutrition and lifestyle based on scientific evidence, has enabled me to eradicate the abnormal cells.
My knowledge has helped me manage disease. I no longer have endometriosis pain, I no longer have PCOS symptoms and I am no longer in pre-diabetes. My knowledge not only changed the way the consultants and nurses view nutrition but they now tell every single girl in that colposcopy unit my story and how nutrition has a huge impact on the cell changes. This is what makes me so passionate to help others achieve optimal health.
I am a qualified naturopathic nutritionist and functional medicine practitioner under the internationally renowned College of Naturopathic Medicine in London. My training has given me a scientific based understanding of how the human body functions. All of the systems of the body are designed to work together to achieve optimal health. When we overload these systems with toxins, unhealthy foods and stress, these systems do not work to their full potential and your health suffers.
By knowing how to manage stress, detoxing and providing our body with the right foods and nutrients it needs, we enable our body to bring balance back and our systems start to function properly again.
